Physical DescriptionAppalachian traditional 5 slat black walnut rocking chair. Seat is a woven textile fiber with a coat of clear shellac.
Historical NoteThis chair was used by President Kennedy. Mrs. Huskins arranged to send the rocking chairs for Governor Terry Sanford of North Carolina. Mr. Woody says it was the Governor who suggested he make the rocking chairs.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from the Governor of North Carolina to the President Kennedy received by the Executive Office of the President betwen 1961-1963 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
