Physical DescriptionSilver urn with a wide bowl mounted on a pedestal base surrounded by three scrolled motifs. The bowl has a lid with a stepped finial design. The entire piece is profusely ornamented in silver repoussé technique.
Historical NoteThis tureen was presented to President Kennedy by Prince Norodom Sihanouk, king of Cambodia (1941-55, 1993-2004) on September 25, 1961. The elaborate silverwork reflects the long history of silvermaking as a fine craft in Cambodia.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
