Physical DescriptionGold-plated tie clip of PT-109 boat with "Kennedy" in black letters across bow.
Historical NoteThe PT boat tie clip was developed by Frank Allen for the 1960 presidential campaign of John F. Kennedy. Its design recalls President Kennedy's military experience as commander of the PT-109 in World War II, and was meant to remind voters of the leadership qualties Kennedy had displayed. The tie clips were made of different quality metals, depending on whether they were distributed during the campaign, given to visitors to the Kennedy White House, or passed out during presidential trips.

This clip was left by 3 year old John F. Kennedy Jr. at his father's grave on May 29, 1964 (the President's birthday).
