Physical DescriptionCast bronze seated figure of Buddha, in cross-legged position, with his hands in dhyana mudra (the posture of meditation). The folds of his garment fall in his lap in a lotus-like pattern.
Historical NoteLeft by donor on January 6, 1961 with Chief of President's Security Staff at the Carlyle Hotel, New York.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a member of the general public to the President and Mrs. Kennedy received by the Executive Office of the President betwen 1961-1963 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
