Physical DescriptionPair of Lucite bookends with an honorary White House Police hat badge encapsulated in center. The badge is a gold Presidential Seal with "White House Police" on a blue enamel panel at top. Just below the eagle is the White House with "Honorary" in blue enamel beneath it. There is a brass plate at bottom of the bookend is inscribed "To President John F. Kennedy from the White House Police 1963."
Historical NoteThe President received these bookends on his birthday, 1963-05-29, at a surprise party given at the White House Navy Mess by members of his staff.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a member of the general public to the President and Mrs. Kennedy received by the Executive Office of the President betwen 1961-1963 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
