Physical DescriptionGold medallion commemorating Civil War Centennial with relief of Ulysses S. Grant and Rober E. Lee in center and "Let us Have Peace Consciousness of Duty Faithfully Performed" engraved around outer edge. Reverse has relief of two soldiers standing below eagle holding olive branch.
Historical NoteThis medallion was presented to President John F. Kennedy by historian Allan Nevins in the Oval Office of the White House on April 17, 1962

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a member of the general public to the President and Mrs. Kennedy received by the Executive Office of the President betwen 1961-1963 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
