Physical DescriptionGold lapel pin depicting an orbit around a globe. Globe engraved "MERCURY ORBITAL", orbital encicrling globe engraved "FRIENDSHIP 7." Back of pin engraved "J.F.K."; makers' marks "-GALT-" at top, "BAB14K" at bottom.
Historical NoteThis pin is one of a small number brought into space by John Glenn on his celebrated manned orbital flight of the Earth on February 20, 1962. During a White House visit on June 27, 1962, the astronaut gave the personally engraved pin to President Kennedy, who thanked Col. Glenn for the "the Mercury pin which you carried in your flight suit"
