Physical DescriptionCherry blossom tree; fabric flowers and leaves attached to taped and painted styrofoam trunk. Trunk is mounted to square base surrounded by wood picket fence. Part of hina doll set used during Hina Matsuri (Girls' Day).
Historical NoteSakura, or cherry blossom trees, are considered symbolically and culturally important in Japan. Miniature cherry blossom and mandarian orange trees are traditionally placed on the fifth tier of the hina doll altars set up in Japanese homes during the Hina-Matsuri, or Girls' Day, festivities on March 3 each year. The cherry tree is traditionally placed on the right side of the tier.
