Medal is engraved with the date the treaty was signed October 28, 1967 and with a man waving the Mexican flag over the land. Reverse has raised relief of the Aztec god Chamizal with the date 1964
Historical NoteThe Chamizal dispute continued to affect Mexico-United States relations adversely until President John F. Kennedy agreed to settle it on the basis of the 1911 arbitration award. It was hoped that settlement of the dispute would strengthen the "Alliance for Progress" and solidify the Organization of American States. The treaty of Chamizal was finally signed by President Johnson in October of 1967, of which this medal is a commemoration.
