Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. John F. Kennedy hops aboard an ocean liner as he kicks away Prime Minisiter of Britian, Harold Macmillian who is floating in a row boat on temptest seas reaching out his hand (temptest politics). In the waves is "Sex & Security Scandal". The President of France, Charles DeGualle stands in the background with crossed arms.
Historical NoteJohn F. Kennedy was not involved in the Profumo affair, a political sex scandal in the United Kingdom in the 1960s. John Profumo, Secretary of State for War in the British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan's Conservative government, had an extramarital affair with the 19-year-old model Christine Keeler beginning in 1961.The scandal severely damaged the credibility of Macmillan's government, and Macmillan resigned as Prime Minister in October 1963, citing ill health.
