This July 1776 issue of The Pennsylvania Magazine features the first printing of the Declaration of Independence in magazine format. Published just weeks after the document was adopted by the Continental Congress, the periodical placed the text at the front of its "Monthly Intelligence" news section to inform its subscribers of the formal break with Great Britain.
