Physical DescriptionElongated brass sculpture of a crane with his neck extended and beak opened.
Historical NoteThis sculpture was among the gifts presented to President Kennedy by Ambassador Louis Ignacia-Pinto during a goodwill mission to the United States by representatives of the newly-established Republic of Dahomey, West Africa. The presentation was made on behalf of its president, Hubert Maga (term 1960-1963) on June 15, 1962. Dahomey (now Benin) had won its independence from France in 1960.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
