Physical DescriptionCast replica of the Liberty Bell of Mexico. The bell is supported on each side by a silver cast representation of a child. The wooden base has an inscription plate: "John F. Kennedy/ Presidente de Los Estados Unidos/ de America/ Adolfo López Mateos/ Presidente de Los Estados Unidos Mexicanos/ Mexico D. F. Junio de 1962."
Historical NoteThis bell was presented to President John F. Kennedy by Adolfo López Mateos, President of Mexico (1958-1964), during President Kennedy's state visit to Mexico in June 1962.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
