Physical DescriptionShield shaped wood plaque with metal emblem of the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) in center. Emblem shows the site of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina with a depiction of the Wright brothers airplane in center. Brass plate affixed to shield below emblem is engraved 'Presented to President John F. Kennedy 6 June 1963'.
Historical NoteOn June 6, 1963, President John F. Kennedy visited the USS Kitty Hawk, which was at sea off the California coast after inspecting a new computer system aboard the carrier Oriskany during a comprehensive demonstration of weapons and tactics by ships and aircraft of Task Force 10 of the Pacific Fleet. He viewed a First Fleet weapons demonstration and delivered remarks to the officers and men of the task force, highlighting the importance of naval power. This plaque was presented to President Kennedy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk.
