Physical DescriptionSculpture of a wooden boat with 12 brass figures. The Cast brass musicians surround a central figure sheltered by an umbrella. The figures at bow and stern of boat hold paddles.
Historical NoteThis gift was presented to President Kennedy by Louis Ignacia-Pinto, Dahomey Ambassador to the United States for President of Dahomey Hubert Maga during the good-will mission from Dahomey visit on June 15, 1962. The sculpture was displayed in the Fish Room in the White House.
Additional Details
Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
