Physical DescriptionPair of L-shaped bookends carved in a curvilinear design made of Aqua Creek Sandstone.
Historical NoteThe sandstone material used to make these bookends was removed from the central portion of the U.S. Capitol building during the extension of the East Front, from a portion of a wall constructed before 1800. Senator John F. Kennedy used these bookends in his United States Capitol office.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem is from the personal collection of President and Mrs. Kennedy. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
