Physical DescriptionPair of bookends made of white marble in the shape of a book with "Century of History U.S Capitol 1859-1959" carved into each front cover.
Historical NoteThese bookends are constructed of marble removed from the Senate connecting wing of the US Capitol during extension of the East Front. President Kennedy displayed these bookends on a shelf in the Oval Office of the White House.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem is from the personal collection of President and Mrs. Kennedy. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
