Historical NoteA rider from a very young age, Jacqueline Bouvier successfully competed in horse shows while still in grade school. The New York Times noted her "rare distinction" in winning two first prizes in a horsemanship competition in 1940. A trophy she won at the age of 12 during the 32nd annual Smithtown Horse Show in St. James, Long Island, New York is part of the museum collection (MO 2001.3.5).
