Physical DescriptionNavy blue cotton jacket with pointed collar and long sleeves. Center front metal zipper closure with 6 button placket. Two diagonal slash pockets with single welts at side front. Embroidered patch stitched to proper left chest: "U.S.S. Observation Island, EAG-154" embroidered patch stitched to proper right chest: "One man with Courage is a Majority, USS Andrew Jackson, SSBN 619".

Historical NoteThis jacket was presented to and worn by President John F. Kennedy on November 16, 1963 while observing the submarine Andrew Jackson fire a Polaris missle. The President observed from the U.S.S. Observation Island.

Custodial History NoteThis jacket was given to President Kennedy by the crew of the USS Observation on November 13, 1963. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by Rose Kennedy, John F. Kennedy's mother, in 1975.
