Historical NoteThis equestrian style formal "hunt coat" belonged to John F. Kennedy, and was part of his personal wardrobe. While John F. Kennedy spent a significant amount of time in Virginia’s "hunt country" during his presidency, he did not participate in fox hunting. The sport was a lifelong passion of his wife, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who frequently rode with prestigious clubs like the Orange County Hunt in Middleburg, Virginia. During his presidency, the Kennedys leased Glen Ora, a 400-acre estate in Middleburg, as a weekend retreat. While Jacqueline Kennedy spent her weekends fox hunting, JFK used the property for work and relaxation, even installing a 3-hole golf course to amuse himself while she was in the field.
