Benjamin Towne

18th-century American printer and publisher who established the first evening and first tri-weekly newspaper in America, as well as the nation’s first successful daily paper. Born in Lincolnshire, England, Towne emigrated to Philadelphia in 1769, initially working on the Pennsylvania Chronicle.
