Archibald Bell

Archibald Bell was an 18th-century London bookseller and publisher who operated an establishment at No. 8 Aldgate Street. His business specialized in religious literature, sermon transcripts, and theological treatises.Bell executed the first official printing of Phillis Wheatley’s 1773 volume, "Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral." To address public skepticism regarding the authenticity of an enslaved African American woman's authorship, Bell included an attestation from Boston citizens inside the book.
