Political Cartoons

The political cartoons associated with John F. Kennedy's time in the U.S. Senate (1953-1960) and his presidency (1961-1963) often reflect key themes of his political career, including his charisma, Cold War challenges, civil rights stance, and domestic policies. Cartoons often illustrated Kennedy's ecomonmic policies including tax cuts and healthcare proposals. Many show him trying to push a heavy legislative agenda through Congress, which is sometimes depicted as a stubborn donkey or elephant. Cuban leader Fidel Castro and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev play important roles in many of these cartoons in illustrating the Cold War conflict.
