Physical DescriptionIlluminated and calligraphed document in English granting John F. Kennedy Honorary Freedom of the City of Dublin, admitting him to be an honorary burgess of the county borough of Dublin. Signed by Lord Mayor Sean Moore. There is illuminated art work around the border with various galic symbols and the seal of the city of Dublin at top.
Historical NotePresented to President Kennedy during his State Visit to Ireland June 28, 1963. "Freedom of the City" is a ceremonial award, given by a local government to those who have served in some exceptional capacity, or upon any whom the City wishes to bestow an honour.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift to President and Mrs. Kennedy from Lord Maayor Sean Moore, The Honorable Lord Mayor of Dublin. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
