Historical NoteThe President received these dog tags as the Commander in Chief of the United States Military Services. Shortly after President Kennedy's funeral, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy gave this tag to Cardinal Cushing who described the tags "as the most personal gift of her late husband that she could present to me." Cardinal Cushing gave the tag to the Worcester Federal Savings Bank.

It was either government property or was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
