Physical DescriptionCarved teak holder for metal cuticle scissors; made in the shape of a donkey with jointed legs, sitting on his haunches. The cuticle scissors are set into a hole on his nose giving the appearance of eyeglasses. A rectangular opening is cut into his behind (originally meant to hold nail clippers).
Historical NoteAs a Democrat, John F. Kennedy received a lot of donkey-themed gifts over the course of his political career. This articulated stand, made to hold cuticle scissors on the base of the donkey's nose and a nail clipper where his tail would be, is a particularly whimsical example. The figure, designed in 1959 and copyrighted as "manicure donkey," was part of the Zoo-Line series made for the Los Angeles-based company Schooline Corp.
