Historical NoteThe Capital Press Club was founded in 1944 as an African-American alternative to the US National Press Club, which did not then accept black members.
The Capital Press Club aimed to provide a space for African-American journalists to network, socialize, and engage in professional development. It was the oldest African-American communications association in the United States, playing a crucial role in advancing the careers of Black journalists and communications professionals.
