Physical DescriptionFountain pen stand with rectangular base engraved with an outline drawing of a reclining lion. Black plastic holder for pen protrudes upward from base. B: Black plastic fountain pen for pen stand. Ball point pen with a clear plastic tip, black plastic end and tortoise shell band around center. Pen stand is part of an 8 piece ivory desk set.
Historical NoteThe pen and stand are part of a desk set presented to President Kennedy during prime minister of the Somali Republic (1960-1969) Dr. Abdirashid Ali Shermarke's state visit to the White House November 27, 1962.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
