Physical DescriptionRectangular box with hinged lid carved from ivory. The lid of the box has an enamel crest of the Republic of Somali in center. This box is part of an 8 piece desk set.
Historical NoteThis box is part of a desk set presented to President Kennedy during prime minister of the Somali Republic (1960-1969) Dr. Abdirashid Ali Shermarke's state visit to the White House November 27, 1962.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
