Physical DescriptionPin in the shape of a cross with a Nazi swastika symbol in center. "1939" is engraved on the lower part of the cross.
Historical NoteDuring World War II, Ernest Hemingway was attached to the 22nd Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division in Europe while working as a war correspondent for Collier's magazine. This German Iron Cross pin was probably acquired by the writer during that time. Many U.S. soldiers brought home Nazi items as war souvenirs.
