Historical NoteThis green beret was left by the eternal flame at the gravesite of President John F. Kennedy by Command Sergeant Major Francis Ruddy on the day of the President's funeral. President Kennedy championed the role of Special Forces and authorized the wearing of the green beret on October 12, 1961.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from the Superintendent of Arlington National Cemetery to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum received in 1969.
