Physical DescriptionWooden rocking chair with a cane seat and back. The plaque on the chair reads: "To a Man of good will from the goodwill workers of Morgan Memorial Inc., Boston, MA"
Historical NoteThis chair by an unknown manufacturer was modelled after the style number 1000 rocking chair made by the P & P Chair Company in Asheboro, North Carolina. Also known as the Carolina Rocker, this type of rocking chair was popularized in the 1960s by President John F. Kennedy, who used P & P rocking chairs in the White House, as well as in his private homes.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a member of the general public to the President and Mrs. Kennedy received by the Executive Office of the President betwen 1961-1963 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
