Physical DescriptionGold 100 lire coin featuring image of Pope John XXIII facing proper right on obverse. Image of Papal Seal insignia and "Citta del Vaticano"on reverse. Coin came in white and gold box with 8 other coins, box has gold papal seal insignia on cover.
Historical NoteJacqueline B. Kennedy received coins in March 1962, probably presented to her during trip to Rome, Italy. Coins were then received in the White House Gift Unit on October 5, 1962 from the Third Floor of the Mansion (White House).
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift to President and Mrs. Kennedy from Pope John XXIII. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
