Physical DescriptionModel of the Danish maritime training ship the "Danmark". Ship model has three fully rigged masts and a painted orange-red and white hull with a green stripe. The Danmark was built in 1933 and loaned to the United States during World War II as a training ship for the Coast Guard Academy. The ship was returned to Denmark in 1945.
Historical NoteThe Danmark was received during reception for students that were part of the New York Herald Tribune Forum on February 15, 1961.
This ship model was displayed in President Kennedy's Oval Office in the White House. It was presented to President Kennedy by Kirsten Runge in the Oval Office during a NY Herald Tribune Forum for student to visit the White House on February 15, 1961.
