Physical DescriptionMounted sailfish specimen, predominantly blue to gray in color with a large, wide dorsal fin ("sail") running the length of the fish's back and long, spear-like upper jaw.
Historical NoteThis sailfish was caught by John F. Kennedy on his honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico on September 16, 1953. It took Kennedy two hours to reel in the 99 pound fish. After becoming president, Kennedy hung his game trophy in the "Fish Room" of the White House. The room received its name during administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt, when it was housed FDR's aquariums. The name was changed to the Roosevelt Room during the Nixon administration.
