Physical DescriptionOne of a pair of L shaped bookends. On each base, a water buffalo is carved from a dark colored wood. This buffalo rears its head to the right and has its right leg forward.
Historical NoteA gift from General Emilio Aguinaldo, former president of the Philippines, this pair of bookends was kept by President Kennedy on a table in the Oval Office of the White House, beneath paintings of buffalo by American artist George Catlin.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
