Physical DescriptionDictaphone, model 117000, type P6, serial #612187, with 4 blue plastic dictabelts (1 is used), and a handheld microphone and cord. It is a dictation machine, a sound recording device used to record speech to be played back or typed into print. Recordings were made onto dictabelts, by cutting grooves onto plastic belts. Used by President Kennedy in the Oval Office.

Custodial History NoteItem was associated with the office of the Kennedy Administration. Ownership was transferred to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
