Physical DescriptionEngineering Model of Saturn I Block 2 rocket launched January 29, 1964 from Cape Kennedy Space Center (Base separate) with payload Saturn SA IV. S-IV was the second stage of the Saturn I, a rocket-powered launch vehicle used by NASA for early flights in the Apollo program.
Historical NoteThe Saturn series was a family of large American liquid-fueled rockets that solved the problem of getting manned spacecraft to the Moon. They played a central role in the Apollo Project. Three models were developed: the Saturn I, the Saturn IB, and the Saturn V. In all, 32 Saturns were launched with no failures.Flight tests of the Saturn C-1 began in 1961.
