Historical NoteIn 1962, Charles Treger was the first American to win the Wieniawski Competition in Poland for playing the violin. This win which came during the Cold War, promted President John F. Kennedy to send a congratulatory telegram.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was in the Oval office during the End of Term transfer of material to the National Archives. It was held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
