Physical DescriptionGold medallion with relief of Gonzolo Ximenez, Spanish Conquistador and founder of Bogota in center. The reverse is engraved "Santa Fe de Bogota" with a crest in center and "1538" at lower edge. The medallion hangs from a yellow and red grosgrain ribbon.
Historical NoteThis medallion was presented to President John F. Kennedy during his state visit to Columbia December 17, 1961.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
