Physical DescriptionTwo square black lacquerd wood tables with gold leaf design and lacquered red recessed tops meant to hold assortment of miniature wood vessels. Part of hina doll set used on Hina Matsuri (Girls' Day).
Historical NoteMiniature furniture and other household accessories are incorporated into the hina doll altars set up in Japanese households during the Hina-Matsuri, or Girls' Day, festivities on March 3 each year. In a five tier altar set like this one, the pair of miniature tables set with tiny vessels are placed on either side of the diamond-shaped hishi-mochi tables on the fourth tier, with the minister dolls at each end.
