Physical DescriptionMetal World War II helmet, worn by Henry G. Krob aboard the LST 395. Green, with white and red painted lettering on front "HAP"; "606" on back; cross painted on top; "KROB" stencilled in white on proper left side.
Historical NoteThis helment was worn by Chief Pharmacist's Mate Henry G. Krob aboard the naval ship LST 395 during World War II. On August 8, 1943, Lt. John F. Kennedy was instructed by Commander T.G. Warfield to take his surviving PT-109 crew and "proceed by LST 354, 395, or 399, whichever may be at West Kokorano prior to 1600 this date for transportation to Guadalcanal, where you will be met by PT boat." From Guadalcanal, Kennedy and his crew were brought to the PT boat base on Tulagi Island for hospitalization.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by William Hanna in 2015. There is no documentation on how Mr. Hanna acquired the helmet.
