Historical NoteIn the two weeks after President Kennedy’s assassination the National Woven Label Co. produced an unknown number of memorial bookmarks featuring JFK’s likeness and an excerpt from the eulogy given by United States Senate Majority Leader Michael Mansfield in the rotunda of the US Capitol when the President lay in state. The bookmarks were sent to the company’s clients. At least three other manufacturers--Capitol Label Co. of New York, American Silk Label Mfg. Co. of Unionville, NY, and Warner Mill in Patterson, NJ—created similar or identical Kennedy bookmarks.
