Physical DescriptionGold medal with profile of Bob Hope in low relief on recto. Surrounding profile is Bob Hope Humorist Humanitarian Patriot. On reverse "Presented to Bob Hope by President Kennedy In recognition of his having rendered outstanding service to the cause of democracy throughout the world." with relief of the globe and a comedian mask, below "by act of Congress June 8, 1962".
Historical NotePresident Kennedy presented this Congressional Gold Medal to Bob Hope on June 8, 1962. The Congressional Gold Medal is an award bestowed by the United States Congress. It is the highest civilian award in the United States, alongside the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Gold Medal seeks to impart the highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions by individuals or institutions.
President Kennedy presented the award to Bob Hope in recognition of his services to the country as an entertainer during World War II.
