Physical DescriptionLeather saddle with horn and back rest. Metal stirrups are tied to saddle by a royal blue silk cord. Stirrups are incised with a floral design and have a squared off bottom foot rest.

C: Outer Saddle Cover: fits over backrest and horn of saddle. Seat is hand-sewn royal blue stitching embroidered with gold thread in an elaborate floral motif.

Historical NoteThis ornate saddle was a state gift from King Hassan II of Morocco, presented during his visit to the White House on March 27, 1963. Like other heads of state, King Hassan brought gifts for the Kennedy children and in this case was familiar with the interests of young Caroline Kennedy. The saddle was used on her pony Macaroni.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift to President and Mrs. Kennedy from Hassan II, King of Morocco. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in 1975.
