Physical Description.900 gold medal celebrating the 100th anniversary of Italian Unification. The obverse of the medal has a relief of four men's profiles (Giuseppe Mazzini, Count Cavor, Giuseppe Garibaldi and Victor Emmanuel II) and is embossed with Primo Centenario Dell Unita 'D' Italia/Gli Artefici. The reverse has a relief of a four horse chariot being driven by a woman bearing a torch, with the zodiac symbols of Aries and Aquarius below it, and 1861-1961engraved along the top edge.
Historical NoteThis Medal is the centennial mark of the country of Italy.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
