Physical DescriptionIron pike head in the shape of a spear with a hook on one side.
Historical NoteThis pike, an effective defensive polearm weapon against cavalry charges, was used by insurgents during the Battles of Wexford. The pike had been in the possession of the gifter Aidan Kenney's family since the Battle of Vinegar Hill, and may have been used in the Battle of Ross. This pike was presented by Thomas Byrne, Mayor of Wexford, to President Kennedy on June 27, 1963 during his state visit to Ireland.
