Physical Description150 year old Torah scroll of religious laws with original tan velvet cover with gold metal (or nue) embroidery.
Historical NoteThis Torah was brought to the United States from Europe circa 1850 by Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise, of the American Reform Judaism, whose name is inscribed in the writing on the Torah cover. The Torah was personally presented to President Kennedy on November 13, 1961 during meeting with the Board of Trustees, Union of American Hebrew Congregations, at the White House by Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath, President of the group.
