Physical DescriptionIvory loose weave tweed coat with silk collar. A row of four lion head buttons (a signature of Chanel) are spaced across the plain center panel. The 3/4 sleeves are adorned with double buttons.
Historical NoteFirst Lady Jacqueline Kennedy wore this coat to a performance by the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch Band of the Royal Highland Regiment of Scotland. 1,700 underpriveleged children were invited by the President and Mrs. Kennedy to gather on the South Lawn to see the Black Watch Band and Pipers perform on November 13, 1963.
This coat was also worn by the First Lady to an arrival ceremony at the White House of President of Honduras, Dr. Ramón Villeda Morales on November 30, 1962.
Additional Details
Custodial History NoteItem was part of the personal collection of Jacqueline Kennedy, it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation Inc. by the Estate of Jaqueline Kennedy Onasis in 1996. Ownership was transferred from the John F. Kennedy Foundation to the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in 2009.
