Physical DescriptionRectangular silver and gold humidor decorated in niello. Each side of the box depicts a significant Russian building. The top of the box depicts the Kremlin superimposed over the Moscow University (which are quite distant from each other in reality). The front, right and back of the box depict different buildings within the walls of the Kremlin. The left side depicts Moscow City Hall.
Historical NoteThis humidor was presented to President John F. Kennedy by Nikita Khrushchev, Premier of the USSR (1958–64), during their meeting in Vienna, Austria on June 4, 1961.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
